A medical and x-ray examination is required for all applicants. This includes an HIV test and we strongly advise that you know your HIV status before making an application.
A medical and x-ray examination is required for all applicants. This includes an HIV test and we strongly advise that you know your HIV status before making an application.
A positive HIV result does not necessarily mean your application will fail, however it is most likely that the Immigration Department will ask you for a health waiver submission. GLITF Advisers will be able to talk to you about the requirements for this.
Also, further information can be obtained from HALC, the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre, NSW. Their address is 9 Commonwealth Street, Surrey Hills, NSW 2010. Telephone Sydney 9206-2060. HALC has a Web address at www.halc.org.au
AFAO, the Australian Federation of AIDS Organizations , publish a booklet which gives advice on this subject. Copies are available from AFAO or GLITF.
